森敏はムギネ酸生合成経路の確定の研究「植物の鉄欠乏ストレス耐性戦略に関する研究」で1997年4月, 日本土壌肥料学会賞を受賞した.
樋口恭子はニコチアナミン合成酵素の精製と遺伝子のクローニングに成功し,「ニコチアナミン合成酵素に関する研究」で2000年4月, 日本土壌肥料学会奨励賞を受賞した.
森敏は「鉄欠乏耐性イネの創製」で2001年4月, 日本農学会賞および読売農学賞を受賞した.
2) 新聞報道
われわれの「アルカリ土壌で生育するイネ(稲)の開発に成功」に関して, 1999年7月23日に科学技術庁記者クラブで, 科学技術振興事業団のプレス発表を行なった(研究代表者の森 敏がOHPを用いて約30分プレゼンテーションし, 質疑応答をした). この発表が平成7年から発足したCRESTの研究のなかでも全国紙(日経,朝日, 読売, 毎日, 日本工業新聞)および共同通信を通じてほとんど全ての地方紙に掲載された嚆矢であった.
2001年5月のNature Biotechnology誌に「Enhanced tolerance of rice to low iron availability in alkaline soils using barley nicotianamine aminotransferase」というタイトルで我々の論文が掲載されて読売新聞と日本工業新聞に紹介された. またScience誌上にも紹介記事が載った.
